This week in the Senedd I had the opportunity to question the First Minister on the funding formula for public infrastructure projects. For the sake of the economy and our quality of life, it’s about time that some of these projects actually got off the ground and we don’t continue to spend large sums of taxpayers cash – over £10 million in the case of the Circuit of Wales – on projects that never materialise. This same problem has afflicted the Swansea Tidal Lagoon and the Wylfa nuclear power station.
I wasn’t particularly impressed with the First Minister’s answer, who pointed towards a new funding formula but didn’t elaborate on how it would be an improvement. Hopefully it will be. We shall wait and see.
